Blog 2, Week 2
Summary: This article tells us that the ‘Fat tax’ has found support. By fat tax they mean that people being overweighed and are going on an aircraft have to pay more money than others because of the extra fuel use > resulting into higher airline costs. You can compare it with: paying extra money for your luggage. Ryan air has mooted this controversial measure in the past. Some carriers already advise large people to take an extra seat if one is not comfortable enough.

Review: In my opinion this looks to me like racism. We do not know how they got so big, maybe they have a disease of maybe they have experienced a trauma and they find comfort in food. We cannot charge people more money because they are big. What we can do is find another solution. The new aircrafts that are being built should include the thought of people getting bigger and bigger. Of course the problem will only be solved in the future and not on a short notice. The people who sit next to a large person don’t have to act spoiled. Just get over it and enjoy the flight!

Blog 1 week 2

Hello dear readers! :) hihi

Summary:
This article is about whether the UK should provide children aged 13 the pill, without GP’s prescription or parental permission. The overall idea is to increase teenage pregnancies throughout the UK. The Department of Health says pharmacies should be able to under 16’s if proper safeguards were in place. A spokesman of the pharmacies said that, before giving the contraceptive Pill, they encourage the teenager to talk to their parent’s and making sure that the child is fully aware of their actions. Managers in at least 3 areas have already opened their store for 13 year olds. Opponents of this strategy say that it undermines the law of having underage sex. This way you are stimulating the children to have sex instead of discouraging it.

Review: In my opinion this is a very important issue to discuss because teen moms are seen all around the world. The fact that they are trying to increase the numbers of under aged teenage mothers it is very positive but it has to go hand in hand with the law and if not I think reconsideration is required. You must think about what this campaign is sending out towards the youth, it can say: ‘you can and are allowed to have sex under the age of 16’. The question is do you want to send that message?  I think there are other ways of dealing with this issue such as involving the parents in this whole story. They know their child and can decide or counsel with their teenagers. I also believe that it should not be allowed without a GP’s prescription. That way nobody knows what is going on in the teenager’s life and I think they should meddle in more to know what the teenager’s needs really are.

Summary:
This article informs us about the developments that are taking place around the unemployed people in the UK. Most companies give the available jobs to East European man/woman. This is not the way to stimulate your own market according to Employment Minister Grayling. He thinks companies should give the jobs to what he calls ‘local recruits’. Jobs are rare and you should at least give the jobs to the people in your own country. In order to compete with other Latin American countries, British workers should show their willingness to work and work their way up from the bottom. ( words 99)

Review:
I think the proposal from Minister Grayling is a very positive one. Not only should we invest in our own economy we should encourage each other to work hard to survive the crisis without too much damage. If we give all our jobs to people who may offer less salary, we get more and more unemployed people every day. I do not think this only applies in the UK, but all around Europe. We should take this advice off by heart and do something with it so we can survive the crisis!  ( words 92).

Summary Article: David Cameron (the prime minister of England) visits Burma because economic sanctions against Burma should be suspended in recognition of the changes taking place in Burma. Aung San Suu Kyi is a pro-democracy leader and meeting Cameron. She is against the sanctions. Burma was ruled for half a century by a military junta. Because of that the EU and US and other nations imposed sanctions. The overall message is that the EU/UK wants to help realizing changes in countries for the growth of freedom of human rights and democracy. Dictatorship is most of the time the main reason of poverty in third world countries.  (Words 105)

Review: The fact that David Cameron takes the initiative to go to Burma just to show the rest of the world what his point of view is, is rather inspiring. The freedom of human rights is very important and should not be influenced by dictatorship. Because of the inspiring message David Cameron is bringing across I liked reading this article. Taking a stand against dictatorship and poverty is something I would love to see all around the world and experiencing those changes in countries that do not have such an advantage is touching. We should all help each other to create a better environment for people all around the world. (Words 109)
